“What’s this one about?” You ask?

It’s an idea that I’ve toyed with for quite easily a couple years now, especially since buying my horse Maddie.

An OTTB retraining SIM!

That’s right! Buy a near-slaughter Thoroughbred that’s just been retired from a life of running (some even come complete with a bowed tendon or other injury!) or steeplechasing, and retrain it to be a showring star!

Breed it, keep the foal or sell it to the a racetrack for money (depending on its parents’ winnings, color, and other stuff like that), and allow it to be bought back by the public to retrain!

Sound fun? TOO BAD! We aren’t open yet. xD

I’d love to say “This SIM will totally not take up all my free time and dedication to THSWYOALS and it will slowly fizzle out into what EquiSim is now” but…you know me better than that. (;

All in all, I recorded 24 clips totaling 30 minutes and 20 seconds.

Let’s call it the Celebration of Jupiter Finally Getting Off Her Debilitated Ass And Storking Some Fucking Awesome Babies.

First up is The Butterfly, bred by Dessy.

I don’t even own her, and I have such high hopes for this girl! Both her parents are incredible Hunters and Hunters Under Saddle…she’s going to go far for sure. She’s definitely the first of her color as well, but I think I need to redo the dunalino pictures. xD Her color reminds me of split pea soup if you leave it out for a couple weeks.

No, I lie, she’s still gorgeous.

Next is SS High As Outer Space, bred by Ran.

Wow, is she ever hella gorgeous. You’re probably thinking that yourself. Straight out of the womb, I can see her potential lurking! But who can’t? Her sire just-so-happens to be one of my (admittedly) favorite horses in-game, even if he hasn’t won a zillion dollars…The Freeze. I’m very glad he passed on his color and movement. I think this girl could make an awesome showjumper, dressage, or eventing horse.

She’d certainly stand out!

Third is AR] Fort Grounds, bred by Addictions.

It’s been a while since I’ve had to make a new picture from the ground up like I had to for this girl, but she looks rather stunning. She’s one of a handful of Very Light-built horses in the game, and probably my favorite at this point. Her dam had a lot to give, but age caught up with her like it does with many horses, and so I’m hopeful that she can shine for Common Ground! I can definitely see her being an awesome dressage horse.

Fourth is Zombieland, bred by Noelle.

I’ve already been getting IMs about how pretty this guy is. To me, he’s very typey and true to his breed…that could get him bonuses anywhere. Doesn’t his picture just scream Appendix Quarter Horse?

I could also be delusional.

I’m very pleased he picked up his dam Sonnenlicht’s flat-kneed movement…I could see him getting broken W/T/C and immediately stuck in a Pleasure class and winning with flying colors.

Maybe that’s just me.

Fifth, and finally, is DAS Clue In The Water, bred by cpadget.

We don’t get too many grullas around, I love his color. :] (But haven’t I commented on every horse’s color? LMFAO) I’m 99.9% sure I can say he’s the first homebred Mustang of any kind, and I’m glad he is. While I love the flashy hunters, the high-stepping baroque horses, and the warmbloods that soak up the showring, he’s something different, and different is great.

I can imagine him going up against Zombieland someday.

I did this post because I really haven’t done any Horse Highlights lately. xD I promise, that stuff is coming back this week. If I’m getting anything done, it’s going to at least be a few posts on THSWord.

There’s some major crap being chucked in my general direction right now, but I’ll make an attempt to stay productive, guys. Don’t give up on me. ;]

I don’t really have a projected date for REMiX to open, but it won’t be long! You guys will be the first to know.

In mid January of 2008, I bought the horse I had waited and looked for for over six years, Personal Remark, aka Remy. She was an impulse buy…saw her on Horsetopia; she was $400 and only 20 miles away, so why not go see? Her ad stated that while she was 18 years old and 16hh, she seemed otherwise perfect for me. She had show experience and had done everything under the sun, from barrel racing to trail riding, from western pleasure to doing 3’ Jumpers.

So, bundled up in eight zillion layers, we went to meet this Remy. Despite her monstrous size (over a foot taller than me at the withers!) she was such a sweetheart. After jumping on her with a huge western saddle and walking her around the driveway (along with a few trotting strides), we said nothing more than “We’ll take her.”

Anyone that knows anything about the horse market could see the flashing neon lights and alarm bells and sirens and loud shit with the situation. But amazingly, I lucked out with the best first horse a girl could get. On a day to day basis she’d cart me around the arena, whether it was half-galloping with me way up on her neck, or taking me over 2 foot verticals CANTERING when I’d have near panic attacks trotting over tiny crossrails on any other horse. She even took me to my first show…and while we really butchered it (accidentally cantering in the W/T Pleasure class and screwing up the Eq pattern), she never placed a foot wrong or intimidated me at all.

It was later that year, with the changing seasons and falling leaves, that we started realizing something wasn’t quite right with Remy. It started off only while we were jumping; she’d toss her head and canter away. Remy would never bolt off with you, that was a fact.

We brushed it off as nothing, and put her on some joint supplements. After all, she was 18 years old; it’s a practical given that any near-elderly ex-racehorse is going to have some uncomfortable times.

A month later, Remy could no longer trot. She’d shake her head like a maniac and dive right into an uncontrollable canter until you pulled her up, at which point she’d go back to walking. I was still so blind to this; Remy was my best friend…maybe it’s just the cold weather, maybe she just doesn’t like this bit, maybe she just needs her teeth floated, etc. I started making up excuses until one day my dad made me stop riding her. Made me stop riding her, the horse that had leaped backwards when I got catapulted off her shoulders just so she wouldn’t step on me when I fell, who took me to my first show, who made me cry and grin like a retard and everything in between. He didn’t trust her anymore, he said she was dangerous.

The horse that would stand there with six children climbing all over her, brushing her and yanking innocently on her tail, was dangerous.

I was heartbroken, even more so when my instructor told me it was time for Remy to go. She claimed I had gone as far as I could with her and there was nothing else we could do.

A few months later, Remy was shipped back to her old owners who now owned a private farm for $400.

Every time I came in for a lesson and that stall was empty, my heart broke even more. Since she had been diagnosed with her grim outcome, I had been half-heartedly searching for a little pony hunter.

My instructor had been setting me up with different horses to ride, because she had felt so bad watching Remy get sent away.

I started riding Maddie, a 15.3hh OTTB with a flashly look and incredible hunter movement. She was comparable to the $20k Hunters Under Saddle with a little show experience and some slowing to her canter.

One day, I was given a price on her. $1,500, take it or leave it. I had a week to decide, or she was going up for public sale.

I looked at the prospect of a cute little pony hunter, and I looked at that empty stall. The empty stall overwhelmed the cute little pony hunter, and I gave in. I bought Maddie.

Everything was going fantastic. Maddie was a gorgeous mare, I couldn’t ride without getting compliments, and so we went to our first show not two months after buying her.

The show was a train wreck. It was Maddie’s first time going anywhere that wasn’t a race…that should say enough. We didn’t place in anything, and Maddie was beyond confused.

A week later, she came up with an abscess, which was understandable considering the sudden changes in ground moisture. But even weeks after it burst and healed, Maddie was still acting up. She went from calm, level-headed hunter to the stereotypical OTTB, complete with bolting and bucking.

Naturally, I was scared to death. Lessons would end on me jumping off her and running out of the arena with tears streaming down my face, where I would hide in the Porta-Potty and wonder what went wrong.

I stopped riding her. Now a horse I was deathly afraid of, a horse everyone said I ruined, sat in that stall, unused.

That broke my heart more than it being empty.

I had other girls start riding her to ease my pain, and they really did some good with her. I eventually started riding her about a month ago, and while I’m still far from trusting her, I do enough to at least go W/T with the occasional canter. Still, I know I don’t have what it takes to train her anymore, so she’s currently up for sale for $1,750 OBO.

So, here’s the problem.

I’ve been bugging my parents to let me go visit Remy since early August. Today, it happened.

It was supposed to be all happy tears and reunited and it feeeeels so goood! but it wasn’t. It was all bittersweet emotions and memories, and it was far from good. It made me realize that fuck, I might have really screwed up.

Because Remy’s content where she is, but she’s not happy.

The moment I went out in the pasture to see her, she came walking up to me as fast as she could with ears pricked…had she been able to gallop up to me, I’m sure she would have.

I spent a very long time just standing there with her in the cold autumn wind, just watching her hair fly around as she munched on clover.

She wouldn’t go back in the barn because she thought she was mine again and she wanted to jump in the trailer and come home.

Eventually, I wanted to get on her. They claimed they had been doing W/T/C work with her and started her over small jumps. I assumed she was fully healed after her diet changes and massages and stuff.

They claimed. I assumed.

I was horrified when I finally got on her. She took right off at a trot much like Maddie at her first show. A very Dressage-y trot as I had known they were going to further train her in last summer if I hadn’t bought her.

That Dressage-y trot turned into vicious head shaking, which turned into a choppy canter back to the gate, where she stopped and pulled mercilessly on the bit.

Remy hasn’t changed. My heart sunk.

We untacked her and they started talking about getting rid of all of their horses by next weekend, about sending them to the auctions but Remy would be the last to have to go.

My grip on her mane tightened possessively, because suddenly her future’s uncertain. My best friend; the horse that meant everything to me. The horse I waited almost 3 months just to come visit. The only horse I’ve ever truly loved.

Maddie is going to be a superstar world champion hunter someday, with the right rider. She’s fun to ride when she’s not scary as fuck and has one hell of a jump.

But we’ve never really had a bond, it was all visions of ribbons and greed and desire to fill that stall overtook me when I agreed to buy her.

Then there’s Remy.

But her future, even with me, is uncertain, because how long can you keep a 19 year old Thoroughbred ex-racehorse sound when they’re hardly rideable already? And when she’s not sound again, will it be deja vu and shipping her off? Because as much as I said I’d keep her just as a pasture puff, I can’t see my parents coming up with $300 a month to keep her like that.

I care about her so damn much, the thought of her potentially being in the hands of a kill buyer or someone who will never see the good in her, just a half-lame, “dangerous”, giant elderly ex-racehorse, and not knowing all these heart-squeezing memories that I know, just ties my stomach in knots.

I love her. But how much can I really do for her?

Is it worth giving up having a rideable horse of my own for the one I love?

Or is this just a sign that it’s really just time to move on?

I need help.

“Started on September 26th, 2009, REMiX SIM will "remix" the RPG and SIM game into one seamless game!”

I got big plans in store for this one.

And no, this doesn’t mean I’m dropping THS, or THS is dying, or I’m working on THS less, or THS anything.

ESv1 had one of these, but it was a simply list on one topic, giving each horse an ID number. It was never used beyond the point of seeing how many horses we had. By the time we were at 250 or so, it got pretty lengthy and annoying to read/use, so it was removed upon v2’s release.

So, for the longest time, I’ve wanted to have some sort of database for THS; problem was, I wanted the horses to all be in order of when they were created. Since I didn’t have the database idea until the game was well started, I figured it wasn’t a possibility.

Tonight, I started the official THSWYOALS database, which won’t be released for the public to see until I’ve actually gotten it all written out.

For now, every horse has a unique ID that’s decided on which order I add them to the database. Once I have every horse initially loaded up, I’ll go back and give them an ID based on their topic number.

Anyway, my whole point of using this database is just for general knowledge. :d

For instance:

Of the 40 horses currently listed, 19 are mares. Therefore, a mare sale should happen soon.

Just thought I’d mention this. So you guys don’t think I’m slacking off; that’s partly what THSWord is for, after all. ;]

So, anybody that knows anything about creating SIM games knows that it doesn’t happen overnight (except in THS’s case, but that’s just because THS is epic). You have to have a lot of practice, you have to try and try and try until you finally hit something that works, something that people want to play, and like to play.

Some people just get really, really lucky and hit this goal almost instantly. For me, on the other hand, this took five years. A lot of people probably would have given up long before that point, but I was determined. Very determined. Ever since I joined my first SIM game (Horseland (of course) in early 2004), I felt like I wanted to be that person on the other end of the computer screen. God knows why.

So at the ripe old age of [not going to tell you :d], I rounded up twenty five bucks, which was a huge deal to me at that age, and went to Barnes & Noble. I bought the first HTML book I saw on the shelf and ran out of the store beaming.

I gave up on it a couple days later because I couldn’t understand a word of it.

In October of 2004, I apparently released Saddle Horse RPG. I say “apparently” because, well…I don’t remember it at all. xD (And that’s a good thing, judging by the entire site) So I have nothing to say on this one.

Later that same month, I started Horse Dream v1. I must have lost this entire year when I got kicked in the face by Spicey, because I can’t even begin to remember this version of HD. This was probably my first ever forum; please say HA HA.

In January of 2005 came Horse Dream, the real version that I very much remember. I consider this my first actual success at anything horse SIM related, even though the forum seems real vacant  these days. …Also, please note and laugh at my attempt at skinning. Please.

And a few weeks later came Bequinity, which (if I remember correctly, which I probably can’t) was the shortened name of Bell Bootz Equinity, which either came before or after this one…hard to say. Either way, Bequinity never got anywhere. Never even got finished.

I tried real hard to find the version of Bell Bootz Equinity I really liked, but I couldn’t. =[ It had great horse pictures similar to THS. Actually, it was a LOT like THS now that I think about it.

Five months later, I started The Paper Stallion. I said started.

Next month came Bequinity v2. This one actually got a little far, but I still LOL at my coding attempts.

That same month I began Bequnity v3. Please read the part in the purple box, it’s SERIOUSLY amusing. xD And no, this wasn’t the version of BBE I mentioned earlier that was awesome.

It was another three months before I opened Turn Your Back, which was my first FULLY FUNCTIONAL game that anything ever happened in. I got a few cool members, but somehow I didn’t remember this game until earlier when I found it. xD The photomanips and stuff are really to LOL at.

The month after that, Vanilla Way Stables v1 was introduced to the net. I don’t remember this one either. o.0 But it looked like it sucked.

Vanilla Way Stables v2 was, and always has been, one of my favorite games I ever made. It was just so full of win. I don’t need to explain why; just take a look around.

Because VWS was just so damn awesome, it wasn’t until another 7ish months or so that I released Kotzi, which was definitely a spin-off of one of those interactive story-game-thingies that used to plague the internet on Expages. (Remember Expages? LMFAO) It never got that far, because I got real irritated keeping track of all the pages. But Kotzi was always a cool idea to me.

EquiSim v1…what more must I say? It’s awesome looking back and seeing how my games jumped from nothing (VWS/Kotzi/BBE/etc) to this. While only me, Woolymammoth, delraye/Ryan<33 (RIP), Merc, and a handful of other people played it, ESv1 was still awesome. And, come on…without it, we wouldn’t have had ESv4! Without ESv4, I never would have met Ran, and we wouldn’t have come up with THS all these years later!

A whole hell of a lot of unnecessary drama, bitchfights, corrupt administration, and stupidity later, (also, 6 months) EquiSim v2-4 was born. I will forever hold ESv4 in my heart as the most amazing thing I ever did in my life. It’s just that special to me. ESv4 got SO HUGE in the three or so years it was alive. We had well over 200 members and an awesome community. I remember thinking I’d never see the day EquiSim lost its thunder, but it did. I still regret that to this day, but that’s just how things turned out, so I’m cool with it.

ESv4 was so incredibly epic, it wasn’t until almost 2 years later that LepuSim came into play as the rabbit-centric sister site of EquiSim. Unfortunately, all those people that said “ZOMG A RABBIT SIM WOULD BE SOO C00L!!!1OEN!” never played, or even signed up really, and eventually me and Merc messing around got boring. RIP LepuSim, you were pretty cool for a while.

Once LepuSim died out, EquiSim went with it not long after. It broke my heart so much to see my life’s dream just die like that, I didn’t even try opening another SIM game until almost a year later. When Ran finally nudged me along enough, I got such an insane urge to get out and try again that THSWYOALS was created in a span of about 5pm-2am. Do I really need to explain to you guys how awesome THS is? xD Didn’t think so.

The Beastly Sexxy Dog Sim Where You Own Kennels was me and Ran’s project, but never really got the attention it needed. We might attempt to revive it someday soon, but for now it sits dormant, much like a volcano. Except not as deadly, or so it may seem. ;D

When asked what she thinks about 45, Ran replied with the following:

“well, she is a good horse. i regret that she got old so quickly and i wish she had been shown more. but i still love her and she will always been considered the champion of Sharikn.”

“probably her colour and her movements. she was excellent in the dressage ring and i’ve always loved a black horse.” she says on her favorite feature about 45.

We all had quite a few great horses to choose from when we imported our initial 2 stock horses, and similarly, we all have our reasons why we picked our two. Here’s Ran’s reason she picked this shining star:

“she caught my attention from the start. she was a flashy mare who had tons of talent and rather than let her go to waste, i wanted her. that, and she’s a thoroughbred and thats what sharikn specialized in.”

And, finally. 45 has had a number of great foals, but of course there are going to be favorites.

“i would probably have to say the late Second Chance. he was a stunning stallion by the time ELIDO took him. the potential he had for sucess made me cringe to have to put him down. i truly believe he easily could’ve gone anywhere he wished.”

And that actually concludes our Horse Highlight on 45! We’ll have another up in a few days.
